[00:00:11] Welcome to the Jesus Famous podcast our podcast exists to see Jesus honored glorified loved
[00:00:19] esteemed appreciated adored revered and followed
[00:00:24] Jesus famous in your everyday life
[00:00:26] Today we have a special classic episode for you where pastor Nate is going to talk to us about what true rest
[00:00:33] Really is and how Jesus calls his people into true rest
[00:00:39] When's the last time you felt rested?
[00:00:43] In a world that we live in that's constantly going where we're always hurrying trying to be the fastest in line
[00:00:51] Get home the quickest get in the quickest grocery line
[00:00:55] Whatever that may be
[00:00:57] Our world is constantly in a state of hurry
[00:01:00] So what is true rest?
[00:01:03] And our hope for today's podcast is that you get a sense of what that true rest is and that Jesus will bring you
[00:01:11] Into true rest as well
[00:01:13] Here's pastor Nate
[00:01:21] Nate are you excited
[00:01:24] About resting during your sabbatical? Are you thinking like I think I might just get kind of bored
[00:01:31] For me
[00:01:32] to uh
[00:01:34] I am one of those people that getting bored is an impossibility
[00:01:38] Like I just cannot like one was last thing to report. I just it doesn't ever happen
[00:01:43] I do not get bored. It will not happen when's the last time you yawned like ever. Oh, yeah all the time
[00:01:50] That's that's constant, but those aren't those aren't bored of yawns
[00:01:53] It's just fatigue
[00:01:55] No, man. I I uh, I can't wait to rest. I I look forward to it
[00:02:00] I I enjoy, you know having those moments where I can reset and recalibrate and think and
[00:02:08] Pray and read and so I always have something to read
[00:02:12] I always have something to think about I always have something to pray about
[00:02:15] I mean you just give me my bullet journal and a pen and I could hang out with myself for hours
[00:02:21] Yeah, I I will not get bored. It's not gonna happen
[00:02:25] Yeah, I mean my the battery could empty out the I could lose all my books like I still be fine
[00:02:31] I I will not get just very running shoes on any screens. Yeah, I'm good
[00:02:38] That's so rad man. I'm so excited to get to go on that and it's just such a um
[00:02:43] I think of it as a kind of godly thing to do to take a
[00:02:47] Season to really rest and I love how you're doing with your family and getting out like really
[00:02:52] I mean you're going to England. We are separating ourselves from our everyday life
[00:02:57] As much as we possibly can so tight so we'll digitally disconnect
[00:03:02] But then yeah, we're going to a different continent. We're gonna go to England for nearly a month
[00:03:08] and
[00:03:09] Just being one city the entire time but then
[00:03:13] Explore out from that one city will be in York, England
[00:03:17] For for like I said almost a month and then
[00:03:20] We'll come back
[00:03:22] To the states and do some laundry and clean up and then head up to lake Tahoe for a second stint away from home
[00:03:31] And it will come out to nearly two months being out of regular
[00:03:38] ministry and and the routines of life here on the Monterey Peninsula and
[00:03:44] You say you're think it's cool and that you're looking forward to it
[00:03:48] Not as much as me man
[00:03:50] And you're not
[00:03:52] Correct me if I'm wrong. You're not writing during that time, right? Not going to write anything for ministry
[00:03:58] or for
[00:04:00] Publication in a ministry kind of way. Yeah, I don't have plans to write anything else
[00:04:05] But what I've said to my friends and family is that if I write anything it'll be
[00:04:11] Experimentations in fiction. Yeah, and just little maybe some short stories
[00:04:17] I have always loved telling stories to the church. I've always loved telling stories to my children
[00:04:24] And so I might want to
[00:04:26] Experiment with that a little bit although dialogue is really hard for me to write. I haven't really learned that very well
[00:04:33] Yeah
[00:04:33] as a as a non-fiction writer, you don't have to
[00:04:37] Stress yourself with that all that often
[00:04:40] But that might be a fun thing for me to just dabble in but I don't know if I'll have that much time
[00:04:45] At least in the first half of our time, you know, we're in England
[00:04:48] It'll we'll probably be on the go a little bit more during that time
[00:04:52] It'll be that kind of rest, you know, we'll have days where we're just lounging for sure
[00:04:56] But we'll be wanting to explore quite a bit also
[00:05:00] But the second half, you know being up at the lake will
[00:05:04] Have some more times to just, you know lounge and yeah and think and all that but
[00:05:11] Not gonna be bring the laptop down to the water, you know
[00:05:13] Yeah
[00:05:14] Just chill. So, you know, probably won't do much writing if any but if I do yeah, it won't be
[00:05:20] It won't be bible teaching or scriptural insights or devotions or anything that I would put on naitholdrich.com
[00:05:27] Yeah
[00:05:28] So it's gonna be almost like your ghost is here because articles will be posted during the whole sabbatical time, right?
[00:05:34] Yeah, man. Yeah for me writing
[00:05:37] articles
[00:05:39] Happens in three phases a phase one is writing the rough draft phase two is
[00:05:47] Creating the final draft and phase three is recording
[00:05:51] Myself reading the final draft here for the jesus famous podcast
[00:05:56] But they also sit as a little audio player at the top of the article at naitholdrich.com
[00:06:02] so
[00:06:03] um
[00:06:04] Yeah, I've been writing like a madman this year
[00:06:07] I had some pretty ambitious goals of word counts that I wanted to try to get done before I got went on to my sabbatical
[00:06:15] and i'm getting close to
[00:06:17] fulfilling those um
[00:06:19] And that enables me to yeah all summer long keep my rhythm of releasing two articles each week
[00:06:26] So if you're a subscriber to my email list, um, then you'll get those
[00:06:32] Each week what you'll get is an archive message
[00:06:36] email
[00:06:37] An email reminding you about the jesus famous podcast episode that we're releasing riley and I
[00:06:43] through june
[00:06:45] And then you'll get two
[00:06:47] Fresh articles each week so four emails a week during the time that i'm gone until the jesus famous podcast is finished
[00:06:55] And then it'll go down to three or four each week. So yeah all summer long they'll be released
[00:07:01] They're already edited scheduled ready to go so
[00:07:05] I hope that you guys enjoy
[00:07:07] Heck yeah, the stuff i'm writing right now actually is for january of
[00:07:13] times, you know, so i'm uh i'm ahead with my rough drafts
[00:07:17] I've got a lot of editing to do one thing i'm really excited about though
[00:07:21] That is going up for people to be able to read is um
[00:07:25] one of those posts every three weeks is
[00:07:29] Uh a more lengthy post because they're full chapters of the next book that i'm releasing
[00:07:35] I'm not a big published, you know, um, I mean I have a book published
[00:07:39] But i'm not a big time author that you know publishers are knocking down my door yet, you know
[00:07:45] but
[00:07:46] At this point what i'm doing with this next book is i'm actually releasing it first
[00:07:52] There in a holdridge.com one chapter every three weeks and then we'll compile it when it's all done
[00:07:58] And maybe it'll get published. Maybe we'll just self publish it. Yeah, but um that one is called a guide for the climb
[00:08:05] It's based on a sermon series. We did a couple years ago here at the church on the Psalms of Ascent
[00:08:10] Psalm 120 verse Psalm 134 so it's called a guide for the climb
[00:08:15] Help for modern christians from the ancient Psalms of Ascent
[00:08:19] So
[00:08:20] We're you know through the summer. I think we'll get through chapter
[00:08:25] Five or six or something like that. So
[00:08:28] I'd encourage you guys to go check that out
[00:08:30] And if you're not a subscriber to that email list you can get it at nateholdridge.com slash subscribe
[00:08:37] Or you could just you know at the jesus famous podcast listen to those readings and actually read along with the whole article in the show notes
[00:08:45] so you'll be actually read you'll be
[00:08:48] Recording an audio version of the chapters. Yeah, I mean part of the
[00:08:54] A big part of the reason why I even do those recordings is for
[00:08:59] Chapters like that or posts like that, you know, they're so long
[00:09:03] You know three to four
[00:09:05] Thousand words in length. Yeah that you know, it takes a long time to read something like that
[00:09:11] And what that's why I'm only releasing those every three weeks because if you get one of those
[00:09:15] Even once a week, you're just not going to have the time to to read them
[00:09:19] So, you know, I encourage people that get those. Hey, just try to take some time to do this study on your own
[00:09:26] Just pour over this chapter so to speak and
[00:09:30] You know one thing I have in my heart for the christian community is to help christians read
[00:09:35] That's right. I think it's important. I think it's not
[00:09:38] In vogue anymore
[00:09:40] But I think it's helpful and important and to read
[00:09:43] Biblically based material. I think is is really important
[00:09:48] So that's why I'm just like hey every three weeks. I'll release a chapter, you know, you can take three weeks
[00:09:54] Yeah, it'll take us like
[00:09:56] Eight months to get through the whole book together
[00:09:59] And you know, I'll even read it to you. Yeah, you know, so that's why I'm doing it
[00:10:04] Yeah
[00:10:06] Well exciting stuff
[00:10:07] If you're listening to this right now
[00:10:08] You can check out all the stuff we just talked about in the show notes or online at nateholdridge.com
[00:10:14] Just some really great stuff coming up here in the um in the upcoming months
[00:10:18] But today we're talking about this article nate that you wrote called jesus brings his people into true rest
[00:10:24] which i'm sure is reminiscent a bit of um
[00:10:28] Maybe a portion of the book of hebrus that you taught to our church on a Sunday morning
[00:10:32] But I wanted to talk about this because I think that the concept of jesus bringing
[00:10:38] Rest to his people or bringing his people into rest
[00:10:42] We might have like a hard time just kind of understanding what that means
[00:10:45] But I think it's one of those things that we
[00:10:47] Can capture if we understand it. It's like a game changer for life
[00:10:52] And so I think about especially in this society we live where
[00:10:56] It's just like hustle bustle hustle culture to the bone, you know
[00:11:02] On one side of the spectrum, I guess me like the other side is just kind of like
[00:11:06] Don't really care me. It's like almost like kind of laziness on the other side
[00:11:10] But man, there's just like this rest that jesus brings us into that is so dynamic and so helpful
[00:11:16] I think that this sabbatical you're taking on it's almost like a
[00:11:19] It kind of points towards that which is really cool
[00:11:23] So let's talk about this i'm just going to ask you like this. What is god's rest?
[00:11:29] well
[00:11:30] What is god's rest? I'm just looking at the article right now as you ask that question and the passage itself
[00:11:38] As you look at the book of hebrus where the article is built off of
[00:11:43] It
[00:11:44] Seems to have something to do with the future. Yeah
[00:11:48] God's rest is definitely
[00:11:52] Pointing toward
[00:11:53] Things like the city that has foundations our homeland our heavenly country in city
[00:11:59] The city of the living god the heavenly jerusalem the kingdom that cannot be shaken the lasting city that is to come
[00:12:05] These are all phrases
[00:12:07] Borrowed from the book of hebrus
[00:12:09] So god's rest has to do with
[00:12:13] Our eternity or our eschatological hope
[00:12:19] But
[00:12:20] Um those phrases i just quoted are all from
[00:12:24] Chapter 11 onward in the book of hebrus
[00:12:27] So here when he's talking about god's rest we're in chapter four still so
[00:12:33] His idea or his thought about our eschatological, you know future hope that comes at the end of the book. It doesn't come yet
[00:12:42] So what it seems that he's doing is it seems like
[00:12:49] Well definitely it has to do with our current state
[00:12:52] Yeah, that we're in today future current and what it seems
[00:12:55] That he's trying to communicate. It's like that eschatological hope or heaven or the future, you know or the rest that's coming
[00:13:05] That city
[00:13:06] You know that we're going to that has foundations
[00:13:10] That heavenly jerusalem the kingdom that cannot be shaken the lasting city. It's like it
[00:13:16] Is reaching out
[00:13:18] into
[00:13:19] Our current experience today
[00:13:22] Yeah, and and trying to help us
[00:13:25] live
[00:13:27] With a sense of rest and peace as if we're already
[00:13:31] In that kingdom because by faith we actually are already in that unshakable kingdom
[00:13:38] Um
[00:13:39] So it's like our current state being affected by our eschatological state
[00:13:45] Is kind of a way of thinking about it. Uh, it's it's uh or maybe to color it it's
[00:13:52] The deletion of a slave-like relationship with god
[00:13:56] But a life responding to his grace. It's it's deleting dead religion
[00:14:01] But entering into life and joy with him. It's
[00:14:04] eliminating fear and worry and dread
[00:14:08] Of him but now free in our father's love. It's an ending of self effort
[00:14:15] for righteousness
[00:14:16] But receiving and running in the righteousness of christ
[00:14:20] So it's cool. Uh or another way I like thinking of it is rather than
[00:14:26] mere words
[00:14:27] I trust in god. Yeah, you're just saying it. Yeah, but
[00:14:31] A congruity between words and actions. Yeah, like I trust in god and I actually do
[00:14:37] You know, I am I'm feeling that I experience that I have the peace and joy and freedom and love that are attached
[00:14:44] To really trusting god. Yeah
[00:14:46] So it's like the rest of god is entering into
[00:14:51] What god intends for his people today
[00:14:54] in the article you talk about
[00:14:57] prioritizing god's rest today
[00:15:01] And I'm just curious like how we actually
[00:15:03] Do prioritize it is a matter of maybe
[00:15:06] Going through life and asking questions of our day to day actions and things like that or we're saying
[00:15:11] Okay, in this instance am I prioritizing god's rest?
[00:15:15] Or is there a different way that we actually enter into
[00:15:19] Rest or prioritize it. I guess entering it is kind of like the next
[00:15:23] Thing that we're going to talk about but like actually prioritizing it. Yeah, I think the word that I would use
[00:15:29] Is the word concern
[00:15:31] It should be a concern of your life not a not a worry. Yeah, not a paranoia
[00:15:38] not a
[00:15:39] you know
[00:15:41] fearful
[00:15:42] A paranoid kind of yeah concern
[00:15:45] But a concern nonetheless. I mean he says in verse one of heber's four
[00:15:49] Therefore, well the promise of entering his rest still stands. Let us fear
[00:15:54] Yes, any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. Yeah in other words
[00:15:59] It should be a major priority of my life
[00:16:02] I should have a desire and a concern to enter into god's rest
[00:16:06] I mean the parallel that he's giving throughout the whole passage
[00:16:10] Is I mean there are a few that he uses but one significant one is of joshua leading the people into the promised land
[00:16:17] They were supposed to have a concern
[00:16:20] That they would drive out the enemies in the land. They were supposed to be thinking about that. This is our goal
[00:16:27] This is our desire. This is something we want to do. This is something that is not automatic
[00:16:32] This is something that god is going to
[00:16:35] Do the work for us in but we're gonna partner with him like we are going to step out
[00:16:41] We are gonna pick up weapons. We are gonna engage. We are gonna be active. We're gonna have to pray about this
[00:16:47] It's something that they wanted to have happened so that they could have homes and places to live and fields to
[00:16:53] Plant and so that they could fulfill god's mission for their lives
[00:16:57] So it's something that they were conscious of thinking about
[00:17:00] So that's I think the way I would say it
[00:17:03] It needs to be a major priority in your life and concern
[00:17:07] Thinking about having it on your mind is a major part of that because once it's there once it's in your heart like that
[00:17:13] Then that's where I find a christian will for instance say
[00:17:18] Yeah, i'm gonna go to church
[00:17:20] Because I want everything god has for me or i'm gonna read the bible because I want everything god has for me
[00:17:25] Or i'm gonna read books that help shape and grow me and my christian faith because
[00:17:31] I want to enter all the way into his rest. I I
[00:17:35] Don't want to fail to reach what he has in store for me
[00:17:39] I want to get all of that rest in my life
[00:17:43] It's so good
[00:17:44] So later on the article you mentioned um that simple trust
[00:17:48] In god is the key to a life of god's rest
[00:17:52] So let's just talk about what that trust looks like you say it's simple
[00:17:56] So what does that look like? Is it believing maybe just one thing about god?
[00:18:01] Is it simple in that kind of sense?
[00:18:03] Or is it simple? Maybe I can the approach
[00:18:06] That we take before god
[00:18:09] What is simple trust in god look like and how does it enable us to get into god's rest?
[00:18:14] Yeah, well in the passage what it tells us is that the generation that went into the promised land with
[00:18:21] Or that preceded the generation that went into the promised land with joshua the generation with moses
[00:18:27] It says that they were not united by faith with those who listened
[00:18:32] But we who for we have believed enter that rest as he said as I swore my wrath they
[00:18:38] That generation that did not believe shall not enter into my rest
[00:18:43] So the idea or what i'm saying when I say simple trust in god is the key to a life of god's rest
[00:18:51] What i'm pointing out is that
[00:18:56] A lack of faith for that generation
[00:19:00] Manifested itself in very literal disobedience. You know, they wouldn't budge. They wouldn't move
[00:19:07] They wouldn't go out. They would not take a step. They wouldn't go lack of faith showed up in a refusal to budge
[00:19:14] So that's what I mean by
[00:19:17] um
[00:19:18] God's rest being accessed by faith is that you know, there's this like
[00:19:23] Moment where we have decisions in our lives where god's rest is there. Yeah, but there's going to be a tension experience
[00:19:31] You know where like for the that generation
[00:19:34] They saw the giants in the land. They knew what god was asking
[00:19:37] They knew god wanted to bring them into the promised land
[00:19:39] But they saw the giants and the tension was
[00:19:42] How can we possibly go in there?
[00:19:45] Look at these giants and they listened to the thing that caused the tension rather than listening to god
[00:19:51] So I try to give some examples. I can't remember if I put it in the article or not, but uh
[00:19:57] Some examples of this would be like okay in my life
[00:20:02] Take matthew 7 verse 12 due to others whatever you would like them to do to you
[00:20:07] This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and prophets. All right, so
[00:20:13] You think about that
[00:20:14] A moment comes in your life
[00:20:16] Where you're at odds with somebody there's conflict
[00:20:20] And there's the lord saying I have the rest
[00:20:25] For you. Yeah
[00:20:28] The way you can access that rest is by right now doing to that person
[00:20:33] What you would like them to do to you
[00:20:39] Will you trust me?
[00:20:41] Yeah, will you put simple faith in me and step out without saying like
[00:20:46] But they're gonna take advantage of me or but that's not gonna work or or but they're just gonna get their way
[00:20:52] Instead of seeing the giants or the obstacles. Will you just simply trust me?
[00:20:57] And enter into my rest
[00:21:00] Or first peter 5 verse 7 cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you
[00:21:05] So worries come into your life. You have anxiety that you're dealing with
[00:21:11] The lord's inviting you to pray to commit it to him in prayer
[00:21:16] But
[00:21:17] Our concept quite often is how I can't do that. That's not the answer
[00:21:22] That's not really gonna solve anything
[00:21:25] And so we're not living in simple faith at that point. We're not simply trusting him in that moment
[00:21:31] And that will keep us out of everything he has for us
[00:21:34] Yeah, you see the the the rest that we're talking about here is something that god wants to
[00:21:40] Involve us in the process of entering into wow, he didn't just pick up the people of israel and bring them
[00:21:47] Translate them over into the promised land and push all the enemies out for them. They were involved in that process
[00:21:54] He opened up the river. He worked miracles as they won different battles, but they were
[00:22:00] Obediently stepping forward each step of the way
[00:22:03] So these things are accessed by faith in him and by you know
[00:22:09] Obediently just stepping out saying okay, here's a new thing that he's asking for for my life. I'm gonna access
[00:22:15] This rest or this life that he has for me by faith
[00:22:19] Hey, just want to take a quick second to let you know what's going on this week at nateholdage.com
[00:22:26] You may have seen this already, but pastor Nate just released an article this week called resist the complexors
[00:22:33] And this is straight from the book of 2nd Corinthians. This is a word
[00:22:37] That is so important today when you look at the article
[00:22:40] It's a short little article maybe we'll take two minutes to read it
[00:22:44] But the message is so
[00:22:46] pointed as something that is inherent to our culture and society, especially here in the west and you know, we're talking from
[00:22:54] Kind of the bay area ish here in california
[00:22:58] And that is this that our culture is just so
[00:23:02] complex we try to make things more simple with different
[00:23:06] technological tools
[00:23:09] different ways of communication
[00:23:12] Different ways that we structure our businesses and families and things like that to be the most effective people we can but
[00:23:17] Man, wouldn't you agree that life just gets so complex so quickly it can feel so
[00:23:23] Hard to make things just simple, but the truth is today that
[00:23:28] God's word to you is simple. He loves you. He cares so deeply for you
[00:23:34] He's longing just for you to be obedient to him
[00:23:37] To worship him to give your life to him and he promises you rest
[00:23:43] Enjoy
[00:23:44] And peace and it may feel like that just sounds way too simple
[00:23:48] But god's plan is so good. He boils it down to
[00:23:52] My work is sufficient for you. My grace is sufficient for you so
[00:23:57] Whatever you're going through today, however complex you're feeling your life is today
[00:24:01] Maybe you're listening to this on double speed right now
[00:24:04] Just because you want to get to the next podcast get the most
[00:24:08] information into your brain today, but
[00:24:10] And there's no judgment there obviously
[00:24:13] But just want to say man if you're feeling like life is complex
[00:24:16] Just remember the simple gospel truth
[00:24:19] Our father in heaven loves you so
[00:24:23] With that man when you get a chance listen to this article here on the feed or go on to nateholdage.com
[00:24:29] And read it here soon. But for now, let's get back into today's conversation
[00:24:37] Just in wrapping up Nate
[00:24:40] Just thinking about somebody who's maybe just they're they're living this christian life
[00:24:44] Or maybe they're
[00:24:45] Just feeling really tired like they haven't really entered into the rest. Maybe it's a combination of maybe
[00:24:52] There's like some disobedience and maybe not stepping out in faith or
[00:24:56] Whatever it might be but just feeling is kind of beat down right now, you know
[00:25:01] How would you encourage them just to
[00:25:04] Really take up the rest that jesus has given to them, you know in the in the heber's four passage one of my favorite
[00:25:12] portions is when he talks about
[00:25:15] If joshua had given them rest god would not have spoken of another day later on
[00:25:20] So then there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of god for whoever's entered god's rest is also rested from his work says god did
[00:25:27] From his
[00:25:28] and then he says
[00:25:30] Everyone strived to enter that rest so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience
[00:25:35] The reason I like that little cluster
[00:25:37] is because
[00:25:39] It points to
[00:25:40] It just gives me a good picture of what this rest is supposed to look like
[00:25:44] Because it talks about joshua
[00:25:47] You know leading the people into the promised land
[00:25:50] And just all the rest from they basically got victory
[00:25:53] So when I think about that in my own life
[00:25:55] I think about the victory that jesus wants to win in my life over different habits and sins and you know so personal victory
[00:26:04] But then he talks also about the Sabbath
[00:26:07] And the Sabbath system, you know in the whole Sabbath rest system pointed to
[00:26:13] Something better in jesus that you know as i'm going through life with him
[00:26:18] I can be at peace. I can have rest in him. I can have confidence in him
[00:26:23] And then he points all the way back to
[00:26:25] creation because he talked about how god rested from his works as god did
[00:26:31] from his
[00:26:33] Or that we're to rest from our works as god did from his on that seventh day
[00:26:38] and so then I think about the
[00:26:41] Original creation and the rest of that seventh day and how it was an untarnished
[00:26:46] Place and there was just like a man. Let's enjoy what god has
[00:26:51] Made what god has done
[00:26:53] So it's not all battle
[00:26:55] And it's not all
[00:26:57] peace
[00:26:58] And it's not all just enjoyment. It's like a mixture of all of those things in perfect harmony
[00:27:04] that god wants to bring you into
[00:27:08] and
[00:27:09] you know
[00:27:11] the lord
[00:27:12] Wants to provide this for you
[00:27:14] And one of the things that was so fun when I taught this to the church in Hebrews chapter 4 we went through
[00:27:22] almost the whole chapter
[00:27:24] And we got all the way to the point where he talks about god's word how it's living and active and sharper
[00:27:30] Than a double edged sword piercing down to the division of soul and spirits and thoughts and intentions
[00:27:36] and it was really fun just to
[00:27:38] talk to the church about
[00:27:40] The reason that he mentions that right there
[00:27:44] You know because
[00:27:46] I think usually we just quote that portion of Hebrews 4 just says a standalone thing. Hey, tell me about the bible
[00:27:52] Well, it's living and active sharper than any double edged sword piercing down to the division of soul and spirit
[00:27:59] Discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart, you know, we just kind of think you're like, okay
[00:28:02] He's just like writing writing writing and then he's like boom. I'm gonna drop this awesome
[00:28:07] little cluster paragraph about the bible, but he says it
[00:28:11] in connection to
[00:28:14] entering into god's rest he says four
[00:28:19] The word of god is and then he describes it
[00:28:24] So
[00:28:25] Why did he do it that way? Well
[00:28:28] All throughout the book of Hebrews the author just is quoting bible verses all the time
[00:28:33] You know, he's just all over the place. He's quoting scripture. He's very familiar with the old testament
[00:28:39] And it seems that one of the messages he's trying to communicate is
[00:28:43] This rest from god is there that joshua like victory that
[00:28:48] Sabbath system peace with god that enjoyment of creation and life that's in front of you that rest is there
[00:28:57] You need to enter into it. You need to you know, make it a priority. You need to daily enter into it. You need to
[00:29:07] Access it by faith and trust in him
[00:29:10] but
[00:29:13] I think that when he starts talking about the bible right there, it's his way of saying
[00:29:19] this
[00:29:19] Book
[00:29:21] It's going to be the thing that just
[00:29:24] Cuts right down to your soul and spirit and reminds you of what
[00:29:30] You don't have if you don't have rest. Yeah, and what you can have if you're a believer
[00:29:36] It's just going to always show you a different world. Yeah, you know, I think that
[00:29:43] We we need this as believers so often because
[00:29:47] Like we constantly mentioned, you know, we're bombarded with so many voices
[00:29:52] Trying to speak to us trying to tell us what is real. What is important
[00:29:58] But when you're constantly in the word of god
[00:30:02] His rest his victory or his peace or his
[00:30:07] You know the enjoyment of life, you know as he's designed it
[00:30:11] It's held out to you over and over again all the time. This is what's enjoyable. This is what is peaceful
[00:30:17] This is what's victorious
[00:30:19] And the word does that it's alive. It's working. It's showing you who you are
[00:30:24] It's leaving you. He says naked and exposes revealing you
[00:30:30] So let the word into your life
[00:30:33] I guess is my expectation if somebody doesn't have god's rest in their lives
[00:30:37] Let the word into your life and let it shape you let it show you what you could have
[00:30:44] If you were to place your faith and just, you know, trust him and walk with and enjoy him
